Radiology- Medical Transcriptionist

Primary Objective
· Draft, review, and edit all radiology reports under the guidance of the Radiology Consultant/Manager.
· Interpret medical terminology and abbreviations in preparing patients’ medical histories, reports and other documents.
· Undertake secretarial work.
· Collate data into required reports.
Number of Persons Managed/supervised and their Positions
· Direct reporting as per the approved organisational structure.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
· Take dictation from the Radiologist for preparation of all radiology reports, notes, and policy papers.
· Translate dictation of radiology reports into written format for distribution.
· Return dictated reports in printed or electronic form for physicians' review, signature, and corrections, if any, for inclusion in patients' medical records.
· Perform medical transcription for multiple radiology physicians.
· Facilitate radiologist and department staff in the conversion of in-patient and out-patient radiology readings.
· Transcribe medical reports for the Radiology and Emergency departments and perform related clerical duties.
· Produce accurate radiology reports as dictated by Radiologists within the specified time frame.
· Review and edit transcribed reports or dictated material for spelling, grammar, clarity, consistency, and proper medical terminology.
· Transcribe imaging reports for radiology department and complete transfer of medical records to the system.
· Create reports and upload radiology images for physician collaboration and communications.
· Perform administrative data entry functions as directed by the Radiology Manager.
· Help receptionists in scheduling appointments for the Radiology department.
· Prepare quality medical record documents for the Radiology department.
· Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Radiology Manager.
- Assist in the compilation of the statistics monthly
- Assist in the typing of the monthly reports
· Maintain confidentiality.
· Readiness to work in shifts.
Academic Qualifications and Experience
· High school diploma or GED.
· Formal Training in Medical Transcription
· Minimum three years or more of work experience as medical transcriptionist.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Demonstrated ability to type proficiently, organise work, communicate effectively and maintain good interpersonal relationships with co-workers and ability to work independently.
· Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
· Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills, including English usage, grammar, punctuation and style.
· Ability to use designated reference materials.
· Ability to operate designated word processing, dictation and transcription equipment.
· Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and prioritise.
· Ability to communicate effectively and maintain good interpersonal relationships with co- workers.
· Ability to work independently.
· Experienced in the use of computers.
· Ability to type at a minimum speed of 60 w.p.m.
